Righteousness in the Bible is about a right relationship with God, not simply good behaviour by human standards. It has both a relational sense (being in right standing with God) and a practical sense (living justly and rightly toward others).
Christians believe true righteousness before God comes as a gift, received through faith in Jesus, rather than something achieved purely by personal moral effort (see justification).
