The word “gospel” translates a Greek term meaning “good news.” It refers to the central Christian message: that Jesus lived, died, and rose again, opening a way for people to be forgiven and restored to God.
“Gospel” is also used for the four New Testament books — Matthew, Mark, Luke and John — that tell the story of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. Each is written from a slightly different angle for a different original audience, while describing the same core events.
