Christians believe the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity — fully God, not a separate lesser force or simply a metaphor for good feelings. The Spirit is described as comforting, guiding, convicting of wrongdoing, and empowering Christians to live differently.
In the book of Acts, the Holy Spirit’s arrival at Pentecost marks the beginning of the early church’s bold public witness. Christians believe the same Spirit is given to believers today, though traditions differ on how visibly or dramatically that presence is expected to show itself.
