The Trinity is Christianity’s way of holding together everything the Bible says about God: that there is only one God, yet the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit are each fully God, distinct from one another, in eternal relationship.
It’s not three gods, and not one person wearing three different masks — both of those are ideas the church historically rejected as inadequate. It’s a genuine mystery Christians don’t claim to fully explain, only to faithfully describe based on how God is presented throughout Scripture.
The word “Trinity” itself doesn’t appear in the Bible, but Christians believe the concept reflects what the Bible consistently shows across both Testaments.
