The New Testament includes four Gospels (accounts of Jesus’ life), the book of Acts (the early church’s spread), letters written to young churches and individuals, and Revelation, a vision-filled letter to persecuted Christians about God’s ultimate victory.
These books were written within decades of Jesus’ life by his followers and their close associates, and were recognised as authoritative Scripture by the wider church over the following centuries — a process historians study carefully and which is genuinely more nuanced than either “it just fell from the sky” or “it was arbitrarily decided.”
