The Old Testament tells the story of creation, Israel’s history, and God’s ongoing relationship with his people, through law, history, poetry, wisdom and prophecy. Jews and Christians share these texts, though they read parts of them differently.
Christians believe the Old Testament points forward to Jesus in various ways — through promise, pattern and prophecy — while still valuing it as Scripture in its own right, not merely a preface to the New Testament.
